AI SEO

又称: SEO for AI, AI-driven SEO, AI search optimization

一句话解释

AI SEO is used for two different practices. The first is optimizing so your brand appears in AI-generated answers — the same work as generative engine optimization. The second is using AI tools to produce SEO work faster. They share a name and almost nothing else.

Two practices, one label

The ambiguity is worth resolving before you buy anything, because the tools that serve each meaning have nothing in common.

What "optimizing for AI" actually involves

The work divides into three parts. Access — making sure AI crawlers can reach the site at all. Structure — writing pages an engine can lift a complete answer from. Presence — being named on the third-party sources engines already read, since those sources are where recommendations come from.

None of that is exotic, and most of it overlaps with good SEO. What differs is the measurement. Rank tells you nothing here: roughly two thirds of pages ranking in Google's top three never appear in AI answers to the same question. You have to ask the engines and record what they say, which is what AI visibility tracking is.

The honest caveat on AI-written content

Using a model to draft is not a ranking problem in itself. Publishing unedited, unsourced output at volume is — not because a machine wrote it, but because it says nothing specific, cites nothing verifiable, and gives an engine no reason to quote it over the twenty other pages saying the same thing.

常见问题

Which meaning of AI SEO is more common?
Optimizing for AI answers is now the dominant meaning, and it is the one buyers of AI visibility tools intend. Using AI to write content is increasingly described as AI content or AI-assisted SEO instead, precisely because the overlap caused confusion.
Is AI SEO the same as GEO?
In its first meaning, effectively yes. Generative engine optimization is the more precise term for the same work; AI SEO is the colloquial one that more people search for. This glossary treats GEO as the canonical entry and AI SEO as the everyday name for it.
Does using AI to write content help or hurt SEO?
Neither on its own. Search engines judge the output, not the tooling. Unedited, unsourced AI output tends to be generic and thinly sourced, which is what actually underperforms — the failure is in the content, not the fact that a model produced a draft.

  • Generative engine optimization (GEO)

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of getting a brand named and cited inside answers produced by AI engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews. Where SEO competes for a position in a ranked list of links, GEO competes for a place inside a single synthesized answer.

  • LLM SEO

LLM SEO is the practice of influencing what large language models say about your brand — getting named in their answers and cited in their sources. It is a synonym for generative engine optimization, emphasising the model rather than the product built on top of it.

  • ChatGPT SEO

ChatGPT SEO is the practice of getting a brand named and cited in ChatGPT's answers. Because ChatGPT searches the live web before answering most commercial questions, the practical target is the pages it retrieves and the third-party sources that name you — not the model's training data.

  • AI visibility

AI visibility is how often AI answer engines name and cite your brand in response to the questions your customers ask. It is measured as two separate rates per engine — how often the prose names you, and how often the citations include your domain — tracked across repeated runs rather than single answers.
