Search everywhere optimization

又称: SEO everywhere, multi-platform search optimization

一句话解释

Search everywhere optimization is the practice of optimizing for every platform where people search, rather than for web search alone. It treats YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, Amazon, app stores and AI assistants as distinct search channels, each with its own ranking behaviour and its own audience.

The observation behind the term

Search stopped being one destination. A shopper checks Amazon, a developer checks GitHub and Stack Overflow, a teenager searches TikTok, and an increasing share of everyone asks an assistant. Google remains the largest single channel and is no longer the only one that counts.

Search everywhere optimization names the response: pick the platforms your buyers actually use and treat each as its own search surface with its own rules.

Where it goes wrong

The failure mode is treating "everywhere" literally. Twenty platforms with a thin, abandoned profile on each is worse than three that are complete and maintained — an unmaintained profile is a stale page carrying your brand name.

A useful filter: if you cannot name the question a buyer would type into that platform, you do not need to be on it.

The compounding effect

These channels are not independent. AI engines read community platforms, review sites and video transcripts when they assemble answers, so presence on the right platforms feeds directly into AI visibility. Optimizing a well-chosen few pays twice; spraying across many pays neither time.

常见问题

Is search everywhere optimization just a rebrand of SEO?
It is a scope change rather than a technique change. The insight — that search behaviour fragmented across platforms — is real and consequential. The risk is treating it as licence to be present everywhere, which produces a lot of thin, abandoned profiles.
Which platforms should a business actually optimize for?
The ones your buyers use to ask about your category, which is usually two or three rather than ten. For most businesses that means web search, one community platform, and either video or a review platform depending on how the category gets researched.
How does this relate to AI visibility?
Closely, because AI engines read those platforms. Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn are among the most-cited domains in AI answers, so presence there feeds back into what assistants say about you. The channels are not independent.

  • AI search

AI search is any search experience that returns a written, synthesized answer rather than a ranked list of links. It covers dedicated assistants like ChatGPT and Perplexity, and AI layers built into traditional engines such as Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode.

  • Generative engine optimization (GEO)

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of getting a brand named and cited inside answers produced by AI engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews. Where SEO competes for a position in a ranked list of links, GEO competes for a place inside a single synthesized answer.

  • Brand visibility

Brand visibility is how often and how prominently a brand appears in the places its buyers are looking. It has traditionally been measured through search rankings, impressions and media coverage; the newer and harder component is whether AI answer engines name the brand when asked what to buy.

  • User-generated content (UGC)

User-generated content is material created by users rather than by a brand or publisher: reviews, forum threads, comments, community posts and social content. It is disproportionately cited by AI answer engines, which makes the platforms hosting it a significant visibility channel.
